What’s so smart about WiFi plugs?

Did you know that the average home spends over £60 a year on their energy bills due to electronic products that have been left on standby*? That’s dinner for two or a gym membership that you could save simply by turning off your electrical devices.

But humans are forgetful creatures and we often leave home with our laptops, televisions and heating left on. The good news is that you can now turn off your appliances from your mobile phone simply by installing WiFi smart plugs.

What are WiFi plugs and why do I need them?

These wireless adapters sit between an appliance and the power point and let you switch your appliances on and off from your mobile phone.

WiFi plug technology also allows you to connect to energy monitors that can show you how much energy you are consuming and where. This is a fun and proactive way of saving energy and reducing your energy bills.

By simply downloading an app, you will have complete control over your home electronics.

Installing WiFi smart plugs can help you:

  • Have more control over your appliances
  • Reduce the amount of electricity you use every day
  • Monitor the amount of electricity you use across your whole house and for individual devices
  • Save on heating and cooling costs
  • Reduce your carbon footprint.

Using WiFi smart plugs is a really smart idea – not only will you save money on your energy bills, you will also reduce your impact on the environment.

How easy are they to use?

Installing WiFi smart plugs is as easy as plugging in an electronic device –simply plug them into your power socket and connect your television, computer or electric heater. You can even use them on power boards and switch off multiple devices at the same time.

Smart saving idea!

Using WiFi smart plugs with your home heating system means you can turn it off when you’re at work and switch it on for your arrival home. You’ll save energy during the day and arrive to a warm home!

Smappee or Energenie – which is the right plug for me?

At Evergreen Energy, you can choose from two high quality WiFi plug and energy monitors. Both Smappee and Energenie will help you reduce your energy consumption and save you money, but they work slightly differently.

Energenie

The Energenie WiFi plugs and energy monitor provide you with up to the minute details on energy consumption for individual devices in your home. You can turn electronic devices on and off from your mobile phone or via remote control and see which devices are using too much electricity.

Smappee

For a whole home monitoring solution, we recommend the Smappee WiFi plugs and energy monitoring system. This system gives you a clear picture of the energy consumption of your entire home.

The kit comes with an easy to install clamp that is attached to the mains cable to your home. This information is then sent to the monitor, giving you up to date information on your home’s energy consumption, as well as localised information for individual devices.

Both the Energenie and Smappee systems are ideal monitoring systems for home and office use, helping you keep track of energy use and encourage you to save energy and money.
